| Piston, Diaphragm, Plunger 등의 왕복운동으로 유체를 Pumping 하기 때문에 유체가 불연속적으로 Pumping 되는 특성이 있음 거의 대부분의 Reciprocating Pump는 후단에 Pulsation Dampener를 설치해야 함 | Reciprocating Pump와는 달리 연속적이고, 균일하게 유체를 Pumping 함 후단에 Pulsation Dampener를 설치하지 않음 |

– Power pump의 구동기 : motor, engine, turbine 등으로 crank 또는 camshaft에 의해 구동기의 회전운동이 pumping을 하기 위한 왕복운동으로 바뀜
– Direct acting pump : 동력 기체에 의해 구동되며, Steam으로 구동 되는 경우가 대부분이므로 Steam pump라고 함
