Safety Issue

Safety Block Inspection

Safety harnesses and safety blocks are essential protective devices designed to prevent falls during roof work and other tasks performed at height. For roofing work, a full-body harness is recommended, and a safety block must be used to minimize the risk of fall accidents.

Inspection Before Using a Safety Block

A safety block must always be used together with a certified full-body safety harness.

The harness supports the body and helps distribute impact forces in the event of a fall. Before using a harness and safety block, always check that ropes or straps are not worn, that no metal parts are deformed, and that the stitching of lanyards is intact. If there are any defects such as damage to attachment equipment or anchor devices, immediate replacement and inspection are essential.

Installation Location and Angle Range

Attachment points for safety harnesses and safety blocks must be installed above the level where a worker’s body would otherwise hit the ground in the event of a fall. The length of the lanyard, the extension of the safety block, and the worker’s height must be taken into account.

To prevent swing-fall accidents caused by pendulum motion, it is critical to follow the correct installation location and the maximum allowable angle of 40°.

Installing Safety Harness Attachments

Safety harness ropes must be installed in a way that keeps them taut so they do not slip or loosen, and they must not come into contact with sharp edges.

The harness must always be attached at a point higher than the harness’s connection ring, with the lanyard securely connected to the D-ring located on the worker’s back.

For horizontal lifelines, use either wire ropes or synthetic fiber ropes, ensuring they are strong enough to withstand approximately 2.2 tons per worker. Similarly, anchor points and end fixtures must have sufficient strength to withstand the forces generated in the event of a fall.
